A message from the Primate: Recent acts of violence

The terrible acts of violence this summer—the shootings in Colorado, Wisconsin, and New York—are an occasion of sorrow for our country and for the people and parishes of the Eastern Diocese. They underscore the dreadful reality of evil which can darken our lives.

Let our Christian spirit of loving friendship and solidarity, and our heartfelt prayers to our risen Lord, be a reminder that godliness, too, is a potent reality in the world. “The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it” (Jn 1:5).

We are asking all of our faithful to remember the victims of the shootings in your prayers. May our merciful Father grant eternal rest to the souls of those who have lost their lives, and may He bring a measure of comfort to their loved ones in this time of grief.

We pray, too, that our Lord will touch the wounded with His healing hand, and grant them a complete recovery. May He keep them safe under the shadow of His holy cross.
