What's wrong with this picture?

This is the beginning of a trail in southern Armenia we visited last weekend, which leads to the gorgeous ruins the 17th century Halidzor fortress. We were shocked to find that the village surrounding this amazing hiking trail, pictured above, lives in poverty. That's why HIKEArmenia isn't just about highlighting Armenia's virtues (stunning landscapes, hospitable people, delicious foods, and ancient churches), but also exposing its vices (pollution, poverty, + economic stagnation) and working to bring exposure and activity to local communities, to prepare them for tourism and international travelers.
