He explains his decision by the state of play in science
reflecting the mores of the criminal oligarchic system ruling the country. In
his open letter to President Serzh Sargsyan the scientist says the authorities
encourage brain drain from Armenia, while government officials receive
scientific degrees and academic titles through falsification. And the
government postures as if it is deeply concerned about science.
“Even if the necessary will is in place, unlike the
economy the sectors of which can be improved in a short period of time, science
is built for decades. So, we may not be able to restore what we are losing
today.”
At the end of his letter, he apologizes to Boghossian
Foundation which sponsored the competition, as well as Armenia Fund which
organized the competition, as well as his co-authors.
