YEREVAN, APRIL 5, ARMENPRESS: Intermountain Jewish News published an article putting forward a question whether how long the diplomatic detente  can  last, given Turkey's 98-year denial of facts, reports Armenpress. The article runs as follows:

"What do you expect from a country that, 98 years after the fact, still denies the Armenian genocide? Do you expect sober fact-checking? When Turkey demanded that Israel apologize for killing Turkish citizens in May, 2011, the facts were not important. Rather, a twisted mentality that makes the facts irrelevant, and an unbending need to be right even when it means blatant denial of the facts, governed the day.

As follows: Israel intercepted a ship in May, 2011, that set out from Turkey to supply terrorists in Hamas with food and medical supplies by breaking Israel’s blockade of Gaza, which is ruled by Hamas. Israel offered to take delivery of the food and medical supplies and to transfer them to Gaza. But the humanitarian consideration was not uppermost in the minds of the sailors. They had to break the blockade of Hamas-controlled Gaza. That was uppermost in their minds.

The US and the EU deem Hamas a terrorist group. Neither the US nor the EU finds Israel’s blockade of Gaza illegal. Nonetheless, there seems to be a loophole in the thinking of Israel’s critics. If Israel was right to blockade the Turkish ship trying to run the blockade, well, Israel did it wrong.

Israel boarded the ship, only to find itself confronted with lethal force. Israel fought back. Turkish citizens were killed. And the fault, of course, lay with Israel. It fought back too hard. Israel is always deemed to be using force that is “disproportionate.” (For actual disproportionate, not to mention unjusified, use of violence, consult the Assad regime in Syria.) And so, Turkey, in stages of denunciation of Israel, including the suspension of joint Israel-Turkey military exercises, finally broke diplomatic relations with Israel. Turkey told Israel: You must apologize. Israel refused, as in, apologize for what? for defending our soldiers? for blockading an area ruled by terrorists who declare their goal to be Israel’s destruction?

No matter. The facts are unimportant. Turkey is right. Turkey is always right. Ottoman Turks brutally murdered some one million innocent men, women and children — the Nazis learned from the Turks — but, no matter, Turkey was right. The genocide never happened. Israel’s right to defend herself never happened. Israel must apologize.

Enter President Obama. In the face of the uncontrolled (and possibly al-Qaida-inspired) violence in Syria, Obama needs a united front among Turkey’s bordering countries. Obama needs Israel. He needs Turkey, and that he hasn’t got — because Turkey denounced Israel for not apologizing. So Obama pressures Israel to apologize.

The larger diplomatic need for a united front on Syria is perfectly reasonable and understandable; so Obama said to Israel: Just apologize to Turkey. Just do it. So, Israel did it. Suddenly, Turkey sang a somewhat different tune. Turkey’s being in the right was acknowledged. Obeisance from Israel was extracted. Thus, the two countries can move forward in guarding against the emergence of an anti-West, anti-US, pro-terrorist regime in Syria.

 Israel’s relations with Turkey will never be the same — not, at least, until Turkey undergoes a radical internal transformation on what constitutes truth. So far, 98 years has not been enough. Even admitting that the death of 11 of its own citizens was its own fault is too much for Turkey.

So we have here a wary, purely pragmatic, renewed relationship between Israel and Turkey. One day, Turkey’s Prime Minister Ergodan calls Zionism a “crime against humanity”; another day, shortly thereafter, he receives an obviously insincere apology from Israel. Then everything is hunky dory. Obama is happy. Mission accomplished.

But what will actually come of this stilted, phony reestablishment of diplomatic relations between Israel and Turkey is anyone’s guess. Will any good come from it? Don’t hold your breath."

ԵՐԵՎԱՆ, 5 ԱՊՐԻԼԻ, ԱՐՄԵՆՊՐԵՍ: Ինչ կարելի է ակնկալել մի երկրից, որ արդեն 98 տարի է` ժխտում է Հայոց ցեղասպանությունը: Նման հարցադրում է կատարում Intermountain Jewish News շաբաթաթերթն իր քննադատական հրապարակման մեջ, որտեղ շեշտվում է`«որքան կարող են տևել դիվանագիտական լարված հարաբերությունները, որոնք Թուրքիային փաստերի ժխտման 98 տարի են պարգևել»:

Ինչպես հաղորդում է «Արմենպրես»-ը` հոդվածում ընդգծվում է, որ Թուրքիան Հայոց Ցեղասպանությունը ճանաչելու համար «հավաստի փաստեր» է պահանջում, «սակայն երբ պահանջում էր Իսրայելից  ներողություն խնդրել 2011 թվականի մայիսին թուրք քաղաքացիների սպանության համար, փաստերի ստուգումն այնքան էլ կարևոր չէր»:

«ԱՄՆ-ը և ԵՄ-ն Համաս-ը ահաբեկչական են համարում: Մյուս կողմից` ոչ ԱՄՆ-ն և ոչ էլ ԵՄ-ը Իսրայելի կողմից Գազայի շրջափակումը չեն համարում անօրինական: Սակայն եթե Իսրայելը շրջափակման մեջ է վերցնում թուրքական նավը, որ փորձում է ճեղքել շրջափակումը, դա սխալ է: Կարևոր չեն փաստերը: Թուրքիան միշտ ճիշտ է դուրս գալիս: Օսմանյան թուրքերը դաժանորեն կոտորել են ավելի քան մեկ միլիոն անմեղ տղամարդկանց, կանանց և երեխաների: Ֆաշիստական ռեժիմն ընդօրինակեց նրանց, սակայն դա իրենց համար կարևոր չէ, Թուրքիան միշտ «իրավացի է»»,- ասվում է հրապարակման մեջ:

Հոդվածում Իսրայելի վարչապետ Բենյամին Նեթանյահուի ներողությունից հետո Իսրայելի և Թուրքիայի միջև հարաբերությունների կարգավորումը շինծու գործընթաց է որակվում: «Սակայն Իսրայելի հարաբերությունները երբեք դրական չեն լինի Թուրքիայի հետ, քանի դեռ այդ երկիրն ամրատապես չի փոխել ճշմարտության ընկալման իր ձևը: 98 տարիները բավական չէին Թուրքիայի համար` ընդունելու իր մեղքը»,- նշվում է հրապարակման մեջ:

Իսրայելի վարչապետ Բենյամին Նեթանյահուն ներողություն է խնդրել Թուրքիայից` Գազա մեկնող «Ազատության տորմիղ» նավի ծովային արգելափակման եւ դրա վրա հարձակման համար, ինչի հետեւանքով 2010-ի հուլիսին 9 թուրք էր զոհվել: Երկու վարչապետների զրույցը կայացել է նշված ողբերգական իրադարձություններից և դրանց հետևանքով Իսրայելի և Թուրքիայի հարաբերությունները ծայրահեղ լարվելուց հետո առաջին անգամ: Էրդողանն ընդունել է ներողությունը եւ հայտարարել երկու երկրների միջև հարաբերությունները կարգավորելու ցանկության մասին: Իսրայելի եւ Թուրքիայի միջեւ հարաբերություններում առկա խնդիրների լուծումները սկսել էին նշմարվել ԱՄՆ նախագահ Բարաք Օբամայի` վերջերս Իսրայել կատարած այցից  հետո:
