In a somber corner of Yerevan’s Shengavit district, Armenia Fund rebuilds a boarding school for children who have nowhere else to go.

When you think Armenia Fund, you think bringing water to villages in Artsakh or building greenhouses for farmers in Tavush or constructing roads, schools, and hospitals to serve the far-flung parts of Armenia. Yerevan, the country’s vibrant metropolis, may seem an unlikely candidate for a humanitarian project. But in Shengavit, a district of the capital city, a combined nursery and kindergarten boarding school was one such beneficiary.

This school in Shengavit is the only one of its kind. Its students - who stay overnight at the school from Monday to Friday - are children whose families are living in extreme poverty or which have histories of child abuse, domestic violence, or drug addiction. Although some of the children are able to go home on the weekends to spend time with their families, those in the latter group stay at the school through the weekend.

On Mondays, all the children are bathed at the facilities on campus and their clothes washed by the staff – most only have one set of clothing. Newly built health clinic and community hall unveiled in Khachardzan

On June 27, the Hayastan All-Armenian Fund officially unveiled the newly built health clinic and multifunctional events hall of Khachardzan, a village in Armenia’s Tavush Region. The construction project, worth close to 60 million drams, was sponsored by the Kalciyan family of Argentina.

Dignitaries attending the jubilant opening ceremony included Armen Gevorgyan, deputy prime minister of Armenia and minister of Territorial Administration; and Hovik Abovyan, governor of Tavush. The Hayastan All-Armenian Fund delegation in attendance, headed by executive director Ara Vardanyan, included project sponsors Mr. and Mrs. Arto and Hilda Kalciyan as well as other Argentinean-Armenian benefactors.

The new facility comprises a two-room health clinic, a buffet, an events hall that can accommodate 40 people, and utility rooms. Also within the framework of the project, the building has been furnished with medical equipment and kitchen appliances. The clinic will provide primary care for children and adults and urgent natal care. In addition, diabetes patients will receive free exams and medications three times a month. Khachmach Community Center Under Construction

The cobbled village road of Khachmach (in Artsakh’s Askeran region) stretching towards the new church of the village is the silent witness of a number of welcome developments in the community. The village that has regular potable water, gas system, a renovated school and road, will get a new community center through sponsorship of the Hayastan Fund. Apart from a health clinic, a library, a computer lab, the two-storey community center in construction will feature also the mayor’s office and an events hall designed for 150 persons. Today about 230 people live in Khachmach.
