The first Diocesan regional meeting of 2015 was held on
January 10, 2015. Presided by the Primate, St. Vartan Armenian Church of
Oakland was the host parish of the regional meeting. Priests, Parish Council
Chairs, Parish Delegates and representatives from St. Andrew Armenian Church of
Cupertino, St. John Armenian Church of San Francisco, St. James Armenian Church
of Sacramento and St. Vartan Armenian Church of Oakland participated in the
meeting.
The meeting was chaired by Diocesan Council Vice-Chairman
Mr. Greg Tcherkoyan. Topics on the agenda included the upcoming Diocesan
Assembly in May, the Centennial Commemoration of the Armenian Genocide,
education and training of new clergy, new pastoral assignments, the Armenian
Church Youth Organization, the Summer Camp Program, and other Diocesan related
issues.
Thoughts and ideas were exchanged after which a question
and answer session ensued.
In his closing remarks, the Primate commended the leadership
of Archpriest Fr. Datev Harutyunian, the Vicar of the Northern Region for
wonderfully organizing the meeting. The Primate also expressed his gratitude to
Rev. Fr. Hovel Ohanyan, Pastor of St. Vartan Armenian Church and members of the
Ladies Society for their gracious hospitality in hosting the regional meeting.
DIOCESAN COUNCIL MEETING
The Northern Regional meeting was followed by the first
Diocesan Council meeting of 2015. Presided by the Primate, the Diocesan Council
meeting was chaired by Mr. Antranik Zorayan. Agenda topics included the
upcoming Diocesan Assembly, the Centennial of the Armenian Genocide and the
announcement of the sanctification of the 1.5 million martyrs by His Holiness
Karekin II, Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians on April 23rd.
