LAS VEGAS
-- What do you get when you combine the vision of two enterprising yet staunch Armenians, one coming from
the high tech precision manufacturing world and the other from the high-end jewelry design scene? None other than old-world
artisan processes and 3D laser printing
to achieve the perfect Armenian cross.
The common pursuit of many Armenians
is to create the perfect Armenian cross for themselves, each a bit different as a reflection of the character
of the one who wears it. Indeed,
many Armenians are proud of having images of a cross tattooed on their bodies, incorporating them in their
artwork, or showcasing them in different
ways to affirm their commitment to the homeland, Armenia, the first nation
to accept Christianity as its state religion.
The
endeavor to create a couple of perfect Armenian crosses was the catalyst that
brought a new venture, known as Precious
Armenian Gifts, to life. These
crosses have been carved under magnification, then casted and re-casted --
almost deconstructed -- into individual units,
a feat which has rarely, if ever, been
done to an Armenian cross. Next, all of the assemblies are individually
polished and laser welded with the highest
attention to detail.
During the
ensuing months of 2015, the two creators will collaborate and release limited
edition, wearable jewelry of very high
quality, themed in a wide variety of Armenian subjects. Such diverse themes will
include never-before-done, detailed profiles of the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin,
General Vartan Mamigonian (Katch Vartan), and the Armenian Genocide
Memorial (Dzidzernagapert), all of which will be transformed into wearable,
high-end jewelry.
Once the
two creative perfectionists produce the perfect Armenian cross with an original floral center
and a modern depiction of Mount Ararat on the rear side, they endeavor to take their project a step
further. On a recent visit to Armenia,
and as a result of the deep impression that the Armenian Genocide Museum-Institute
and Memorial Complex left on one of the creators, he returned to the United States with a vison to share
the wearable cross as a way to raise global awareness of the genocide, while simultaneously allocating the proceeds of its
sales to good use.
Hence, Armenian
Precious Gifts created a series of three different crosses
from the platform of the original cross
design, with a limited run of 100 units each, to pay homage to the centennial anniversary of the Armenian Genocide.
Instead of the usual portrayal of Mount Ararat on the rear side, the new cross design adorns in the bold number “100.”
Meanwhile, the front traditional floral
center of the cross has a more valiant appearance compared to the originally
created cross design.
Most
notably, each cross will incorporate gold, mined from the soil of the motherland,
and specifically from the abundant Zod (or Sotk) gold deposit located in the Armenian
province of Gegharkunik.
What better
way to commemorate the centennial of the Armenian Genocide than by proclaiming one’s love and
devotion to Christianity and the cross, an overarching symbol which kept and
continues to keep Armenians united for nearly two millennia,
while simultaneously keeping the homeland close to heart? In addition to raising global awareness of the Armenian
Genocide, a major portion of the proceeds
of this cross will be donated to the Armenian Genocide Museum-Institute in Yerevan. The museum is a heart-rending repository
of first-hand evidence, proving the undeniable veracity of one of the most
horrific crimes in modern times, and tantamount to “ground zero” for the Armenian nation.
The crosses
will come in three combinations of Yerevan
Yellow Gold, Spitak White Gold, and Armenian
Tufa Rose Gold. All crosses will ship in a commemorative, ancient olive-wood gift box with a beautiful
laser inscription. These crosses are an
authentic work of art, and a great way to realize
one’s mission of creating the perfect Armenian cross, while raising awareness of and contributing to a great cause.
