Arman Navasardyan: Armenians unable to leave Syria

A1plus -- Over 20,000 Armenians continue to stay in Syria despite the ongoing hostilities there, says the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia. “These people cannot leave Syria. I do not think that the situation will stabilized in the country in the near future and I believe that the Armenian government could have taken measures to help these people and move them elsewhere,” Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, Head of the Chair of Global Politics and International Relations at the Russian-Armenian (Slavonic) University Arman Navasardyan said on Wednesday.

“Militants of the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) jihadis group may

one day “knock” on the door of the Caucasus and cause damage to the Caucasian countries, including Armenia,” he

said. While Mr Navasardyan considers this view hypothetical, he calls for vigilance and says we all need to be on

our guard.

The ambassador also sees potential danger for Russia and says that is the main reason why Russia is deepening

relations with Iran.

“If we do not stop the ISIL, it will become the worst evil of the 21st century,” Arman Navasardyan said in

conclusion.
