Legendary musical icon Charles Aznavour, widely recognized
as one of the world’s greatest living entertainers, has announced his return to
the U.S. with a slate of special live performances with a stop at the Hollywood
Pantages on Friday, October 28. Over the course of his unprecedented
eight-decade career, Aznavour has performed countless shows across the globe,
while writing and recording over 1,200 songs in eight languages, and selling
more than 180 million records worldwide.
In 1998, he was named “Entertainer of
the Century” by CNN and Time online. Tickets for “An Evening with Charles
Aznavour” go on sale later this month.

Known as “French Frank Sinatra” and his country’s most
famous crooner, Aznavour ranks as one of the greatest singer/songwriters of all
time and master of the chanson. Performing on stage since his early childhood,
Aznavour’s big break came in 1946 following his discovery by one of France’s
greatest international stars, Edith Piaf. From 1947 through 1948, at her
request, Aznavour joined Piaf her on a tour of France and the United States,
giving him his first exposure outside their home country and helping develop
his career. Aznavour would later reside
in Quebec, Canada, writing many of the songs that would later become part of
his signature songbook known throughout the world, including several for Piaf.
Renowned for some of his most famous hits, including “La
Boheme,” "Yesterday, When I Was Young," and classics like "La Mamma"
and "What Makes a Man," Aznavour is a Songwriter Hall of Fame
inductee and recipient of the MIDEM Lifetime Achievement Award.
Since the 1988 Armenian earthquake, Aznavour has been
helping the country through his charity, Aznavour for Armenia. In 1995,
Aznavour was appointed an Ambassador and Permanent Delegate of Armenia to
UNESCO, and is a member of the Armenia Fund International Board of Trustees, an
organization that has rendered more than $150 million in humanitarian aid and
infrastructure development assistance to Armenia since 1992. Through his humanitarian efforts, Aznavour
has been appointed as "Officier" (Officer) of the Légion d'honneur,
received the title of National Hero of Armenia (Armenia's highest award), and a
presidential decree for granting citizenship for the Republic of Armenia. The
Charles Aznavour Museum opened in Yerevan, Armenia in 2011.
Among numerous additional honors, Aznavour has been awarded
an Order of the Crown (Belgium), an honorary doctorate from the University of
Montreal, the rank of Officer of the Order of Canada, and an honorary order
from Russia "for contributing to strengthening cultural relations between
Russia and France.”
A singer, songwriter, entertainer, actor, author, and
humanitarian, Aznavour has performed for presidents, popes, and royalty, along
with some of the most famous entertainers of all time, including Edith Piaf,
Frank Sinatra, Ray Charles, Placido Domingo, Andrea Bocelli, Sting, Celine
Dion, Josh Groban, Youssou N’Dour and Bob Dylan.
