His Eminence connected this significance throughout the
day in Yettem as he ordained David Safrazian as an Acolyte, presented Hye
Spirit Awards to Jack Barsamian and Geraldine Hagopian, recognized Bea Soxman,
Carolyn Mikaelian and Chuck Simonian for long-time service, anointed the
hand-crafted outdoor cross donated by Chuck Simonian and blessed Sarah
Markosyan daughter of Rev. Fr. Zaven and Yn. Adrine Markosyan.
“Today’s Gospel message narrates us the story of the
transfiguration of our Lord. The unique event aims to deepen within our
spirituality primarily the importance of prayer. Christ our Lord taught His
disciples on many occasions through His own example the empowering strength of
prayer in His life. Certainly the same applies to us as human beings. A person
who enriches his own life and spirituality with prayer can transfigure and set
forth a new journey.
Today, my dear
faithful in Christ, I thank God for being with you, praying to God with you and
praying and praising God together. I have no doubt that this will be a day of
the renewal of our faith life,” said His Eminence in his sermon.
Following the services, a delicious luncheon was prepared
by the Parish Council and the Ladies Society. Those attending were treated to
several solo violin pieces played by seven year old Simon Hagopian. Simon is
the son of Harold and Cynthia Hagopian of New York and the grandson of Richard
and Geraldine Hagopian from our parish.
The observance of the Feast of Transfiguration recalls
Christ’s ascent up Mount Tabor, accompanied by his disciples John, James, and
Peter. At the mountain’s summit, to the disciple’s frightened amazement, Christ
was transfigured in a blinding white light; the Old Testament figures Moses and
Elijah emerged from the mists of time to confer with the Lord; and the voice of
God boomed from out of the heavens to affirm Jesus as his Son.
