Western Diocese  of the Armenian Church Catholicos of All Armenians Issues Statement. The Western Diocese has received alarming news from the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin informing about a massive scale attack by the Azerbaijani Army on Artsakh’s military bases as well as innocent civilians of bordering villages on the morning of April 2. In a statement issued by the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin, His Holiness Karekin II, Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians has condemned the military surge by the Azeri Army calling the action “a violent disruption in the peace process.”

The Catholicos of All Armenians has also called upon the Armed Forces of the Republic of Armenia to “defend Armenia valiantly against the enemy attacks and to remain steadfast in the ancestral Christian Faith.” In his appeal to international organizations involved in the NKR peace process, the Head of the Armenian Apostolic Church called out for an immediate cease fire.

 “We pray to the Almighty God to accept the souls of those who perished. May they rest in the abode of the Heavenly Saints. May God grant solace and consolation to their loved ones and a speedy recovery to all who have been injured as a result of the violent attacks.”

May God be with the peace-seeking soldiers of the Armenian Armed Forces.” said His Holiness.

At the directive of His Eminence Archbishop Hovnan Derderian, a special prayer for the peaceful resolution to these unprovoked hostilities will be held at all Diocesan Parishes following the celebration of the Divine Liturgy on Sunday, April 3, 2016.

His Eminence encourages the Diocesan parishes to actively engage with community organizations and governmental bodies to protest Azerbaijan's willful disruption of the Nagorno Karabakh peace process and advocate for the cessation of military activity. 

Below is the statement of His Holiness Karekin II, Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians in its entirety.

Ապրիլի 2-ին Ն.Ս.Օ.Տ.Տ. Գարեգին Բ Ծայրագույն Պատրիարք և Ամենայն Հայոց Կաթողիկոսը հանդես է եկել հայտարարությամբ ապրիլի 1-ից 2-ի գիշերը Լեռնային Ղարաբաղի սահմանի երկայնքով Ադրբեջանի զինված ուժերի կողմից սանձազերծված ռազմական գործողությունների առնչությամբ:

     Հայտարարության մեջ ասվում է.

<<Խստորեն դատապարտում ենք Ադրբեջանի կողմից Ղարաբաղի սահմանի երկայնքով իրականացվող նախահարձակ գործողությունները, ուղղված նաև բնակավայրերի ու խաղաղ բնակչության դեմ:

     Մեր աղոթքը և զորակցությունն ենք բերում Լեռնային Ղարաբաղի իշխանություններին ու ժողովրդին, Պաշտպանության բանակի քաջարի հրամանատարներին ու զինվորներին: Հորդորում ենք չնվազող արիությամբ ու աներեր հավատքով դիմակայել Հայրենիքի անկախության և մեր ժողովրդի անվտանգության դեմ ուղղված թշնամական հարձակումներին:

     Ադրբեջանի շարունակական սադրանքներն ու ռազմական գործողությունները խաթարում են կայունությունը տարածաշրջանում և ի չիք դարձնում հակամարտության կարգավորմանն ուղղված ջանքերը:

     Կոչ ենք ուղղում միջազգային հանրությանը, ի մասնավորի ղարաբաղյան հակամարտության կարգավորման գործընթացում ներգրավված երկրներին` կասեցնելու Լեռնային Ղարաբաղի դեմ Ադրբեջանի չդադարող ոտնձգությունները:

  

 Աղոթում ենք, որ Տերը երկնքի լուսեղեն հարկերում հանգստություն պարգևի զոհվածների հոգիներին, մխիթարություն` հարազատներին, շուտափույթ ապաքինում` վիրավորներին:
